Updating the Zoom Client

Zoom has updated their client, and old versions of Zoom are no longer able to connect to meetings. If you are using version 5.8.6 or newer, please follow the first set of instructions to update your Zoom client and turn on automatic updates. If you are using a Zoom client that is older than 5.8.6, please follow the second set of instructions to update your client.

Zoom Client 5.8.6 or Newer

  1. Launch Zoom
  2. In the top right hand corner of the Zoom client, click on your profile picture or initials.
  3. Click “Check for Updates”

  1. If any updates are available, allow them to install.
  2. Click on the “Gear” icon just under your profile picture to open “Settings.”

  1. By default this will open to the “General” tab. If not, select “General”

  1. Under the Zoom Updates heading, click “Automatically keep Zoom desktop client up to date”.

Zoom Clients older than 5.8.6

If your client is older than version 5.8 you will get the below error when trying to open Zoom.

If you get this error message, please follow the instructions below:

  1. Uninstall Zoom.
    1. For PC, click on the start menu and search for “Add or Remove Programs”. (You only need to begin to type the search.)
    2. Select “Zoom” and click “Uninstall”.
    3. Proceed through the uninstall process.
    4. For MacOS, simply delete Zoom from the “Applications” folder.
  2. Go to https://zoom.us/download and download the latest Zoom client version.
  3. Install Zoom.
  4. Once reinstalled, you will need to log in again.
    1. Click SSO
    2. Use “ulv-edu” as the company domain.
    3. Log in using your full @laverne.edu email address.
