2. Installing Microsoft Teams

Option A: Use Teams on the web

You do not always need to install Teams. Microsoft says Teams can be accessed in a browser at teams.microsoft.com. [microsoft.com]

Steps:

  1. Open a web browser such as Microsoft Edge or Chrome.
  2. Go to https://teams.microsoft.com.
  3. Sign in with your work, school, or Microsoft account.

Option B: Install the desktop app

Microsoft provides Teams desktop and mobile apps for Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android. [microsoft.com]

Steps:

  1. Go to Microsoft’s Teams download page: https://www.microsoft.com/microsoft-teams/download-app.
  2. Select the desktop download option.
  3. Open the installer after it downloads.
  4. Follow the prompts.
  5. Open Teams and sign in.

Option C: Install the mobile app

4. Chatting in Teams

Start a one-on-one chat

  1. Select Chat.
  2. Select New message.
  3. Type the person’s name.
  4. Type your message.

Start a group chat

  1. Select Chat.
  2. Select New message.
  3. Add multiple people in the To field.
  4. Optionally name the group chat.

Add someone to a group chat

5. Using Teams and Channels

A team is a group of people, conversations, files, and tools in one place. A channel is a focused discussion area inside a team, usually dedicated to a department, project, or topic. [support.mi...rosoft.com]

Create a team

  1. Select Teams.
  2. Select Create and join teams and channels.

Create a channel

Channels can be standard, private, or shared. Standard channels are open to all team members, private channels are limited to selected people, and shared channels can include people outside the team or organization if allowed. [support.mi...rosoft.com]

  1. Go to the team.
  2. Select More options next to the team name.
  3. Choose Add channel.
  4. Enter a channel name and description.
  5. Choose the channel type.

6. Scheduling a Meeting

  1. Select Calendar in Teams.
  2. Select a time slot or select New.
  3. Add the meeting title, date, time, details, and attendees.

Schedule a meeting from chat

  1. Select Chat.
  2. Open the chat.

7. Joining a Meeting

  1. Open the meeting invite.
  2. Select the Teams meeting link.
  3. If Teams is installed, it should open automatically.
  4. Choose your camera and microphone settings.

8. During a Meeting

Common meeting controls usually include:

  • Mute / unmute microphone
  • Turn camera on / off

9. Making Calls in Teams

10. Sharing Files

  1. Open the chat or channel.
