Summary
This article documents known technology issues that have been identified by OIT, are currently under investigation, and may impact members of the University of La Verne community. These issues are not considered service outages, but rather recurring or long-term problems for which permanent solutions are being evaluated.
Body
Known Issue: Cognos reports do not work properly with the latest version of Chrome
Summary
OIT is aware of issues that may impact Congos users that are also using the Chrome browser. Reports run with Full Interactivity fail or display missing content in Google Chrome 150 (Chromium 150), resulting in QE-DEF-0149 and QE-DEF-0190 errors.
Impact
After upgrading Google Chrome to version 150 (Chromium 150), reports executed with Full Interactivity enabled display incomplete or missing content. Symptoms include:
- Static text objects are not rendered.
- Filters and prompts display as
<empty>.
- The associated package/model information is not displayed.
- Data reports fail with the following errors:
QE-DEF-0149
QE-DEF-0190: A value is expected for the attribute 'expression'.
The issue is reproducible only in Chrome 150 and does not occur under the following conditions:
- Using earlier Chrome versions (e.g., Chrome 149).
- Running reports in Firefox.
- Running reports with Full Interactivity disabled.
- Viewing saved report outputs or scheduled report outputs.
Affected Users
Faculty and Staff that access Cognos reporting directly, and have recently upgraded their Chrome browser.
Current Status
Chromium is addressing issues in Chrome 150. Please monitor https://issues.chromium.org/issues/531787870 for full details.
Temporary Workaround
There are 4 identified workarounds you may try listed below:
-
Launch Chrome with the new parser disabled. Fully quit Chrome first, then:
Windows (cmd): start chrome --disable-features=XMLRustForNonXslt
Mac: open -a "Google Chrome" --args –disable-features=XMLRustForNonXslt
Linux: google-chrome --disable-features=XMLRustForNonXslt
- Use Mozilla Firefox. Unaffected by the issue; Full Interactivity and all
report functionality work as expected.
-
Pin Chrome to version 149 using enterprise update policy (TargetVersionPrefix).
Preserves Full Interactivity and all report features. Temporary workaround only, as
Chrome will eventually require updating.
-
Run reports without Full Interactivity enabled (not generally recommended). This avoids
the issue but disables interactive-only features. Suitable only for reports that do not
depend on Full Interactivity.
