Microsoft Authenticator Setup & Usage (Work/School Account) 

📌 Overview 

To enhance account security, the University of La Verne requires Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) using the Microsoft Authenticator app. This adds a second verification step when signing into services like Microsoft 365, email, and VPN. 

 

✅ What You’ll Need 

  • Smartphone (iOS or Android) 

  • Your La Verne email and password 

  • Internet connection 

Step 1: Install Microsoft Authenticator 

  1. Open your device’s app store: 

  • iPhone → App Store 

  • Android → Google Play Store 

  1. Search for Microsoft Authenticator 

  1. Download and Install 

  1. Allow notifications when prompted

Step 2: Connect Your Phone to your La Verne Account

  1. On a computer, go to:
    👉 https://aka.ms/mfasetup
  2. Sign in using your La Verne account
  3. From this page select + Add sign-in method 
  4. Select Microsoft Authenticator
  5. Follow prompts until a QR code appears

  1. On your phone:
  • Open the Microsoft Authenticator app
  • Tap “+” (Add Account)
  • Select Work or school account
  • Tap Scan QR code
  • Scan the QR code using the Authenticator app

Step 3: Complete Verification and Test Sign in

A test sign-in will be performed to verify the setup.

  1. A number will appear on your computer screen

  1. A notification will be sent to your phone
  2. Open the Authenticator app or tap on the notification.
  3. Enter the displayed number and tap Yes

  1. Click Next on your computer

Setup is complete when confirmation appears
