Microsoft Authenticator Setup & Usage (Work/School Account)

To enhance account security, the University of La Verne requires Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) using the Microsoft Authenticator app. This adds a second verification step when signing into services like Microsoft 365, email, and VPN.

What Youβll Need
Step 1: Install Microsoft Authenticator

Open your deviceβs app store:

Search for Microsoft Authenticator

Download and Install

Allow notifications when prompted

Step 2: Connect Your Phone to your La Verne Account
- On a computer, go to:
π https://aka.ms/mfasetup
- Sign in using your La Verne account
- From this page select + Add sign-in method
- Select Microsoft Authenticator
- Follow prompts until a QR code appears

- On your phone:
- Open the Microsoft Authenticator app
- Tap β+β (Add Account)
- Select Work or school account
- Tap Scan QR code
- Scan the QR code using the Authenticator app
Step 3: Complete Verification and Test Sign in
A test sign-in will be performed to verify the setup.
- A number will appear on your computer screen

- A notification will be sent to your phone
- Open the Authenticator app or tap on the notification.
- Enter the displayed number and tap Yes

- Click Next on your computer
